Ben is a 13 year old male Patterdale Terrier (with long legs and so is bigger than an average Patterdale) who is in a foster home in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Northumberland.
Ben loves to be outdoors so must have a good-sized garden to relax in, as well as having fairly long, fast-paced walks. He would probably be best in a home with more than one person as he doesn’t like to be left on his own and this might be easier to manage in a family home.
Ben settled at his foster home within about a week, but he cannot be left on his own as he barks and gets very distressed immediately he’s left.
Although Ben is fine with most dogs, he does take a dislike to some, especially larger dogs. He has always lived as an only dog, so in order for him to have a peaceful life, his foster carer thinks he would be best as an only dog in his new home. Ben is very interested in cats and would chase them.
Ben was said to be good around children and his foster carer thinks he would be fine to live with sensible, well-trained children aged about 10 years plus.
Ben is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and has been wormed and flea treated. We were told that Ben had an operation on his right elbow when he was a year old as the bones rubbed, but the operation wasn’t successful and so he would develop arthritis. He is very lame on that leg and carries it a lot. He is also lame on his back left leg – possibly because of his action re the front leg.
He is having 25mg Rimadyl once a day and we are trying him on 125mg paracetamol twice a day too. He is deaf but can hear sudden, sharp or high pitched noises. He has a couple of warts, one on his nose and one on his neck, but the vet said they are not a problem. He sounds a bit chesty and snores, but the vet checked this and found that Ben’s lungs and heart are fine.
