Palm Springs is a great vacation destination with a variety of activities to enjoy with your pets, including the the pet friendly Palm Springs Air Museum!

We’ve been lucky to spend the past several winters exploring the Coachella Valley with Ty and Buster. From sniffing out the top 10 dog friendly things to do in Palm Springs, to day trips to Borrego Springs and hiking in Joshua Tree National Park.

But all of these activities require cooperation from the weather gods. What can you do with your pet in Palm Springs if it’s too rainy, windy, or hot to be outside? Visit the pet friendly Palm Springs Air Museum!Ty and Buster, the GoPetFriendly.com dogs, in front of a plane at the pet friendly Palm Springs Air Museum in Palm Springs, CA

Pet Friendly Palm Springs Air Museum

Named as one of the top 14 aviation museums in the world by CNN Travel in 2014, the Palm Springs Air Museum boasts the world’s largest collections of flyable aircraft from WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. There are 59 flyable and static planes on display inside the four climate-controlled hangers, and more outside on the tarmac!

Inside the Museum

After paying for admission in the gift shop, you can watch a documentary in the Buddy Rogers Theater, go upstairs to the research library and computer flight simulators, or head to the hangars.

The four hangars are organized by theme, with related exhibits lining the walls. As you roam the 86,000 square feet, be sure to say hello to the museum’s friendly docents. Many actually flew these planes and served on the ships!

There are no ropes to keep you from interacting with the exhibits, so you can get a good look at the cockpit and instruments. And a number of the aircraft are open for tours every day.

The museum hosts a wide variety of programs with guest speakers, so be sure to check their website for the schedule before your visit.

Outside the Museum

More aircraft are on display on the tarmac behind the hangers and on the museum grounds. If the weather cooperates, be sure to walk around some of these massive planes and see the F-16 Fighting Falcon. You may recognize the F-16, which the U.S. Navy uses at their famous “Top Gun” flying school in Miramar, California.
