Bertie is a 4 year old male Cross-Breed. Bertie was adopted three years ago but came back to us a few months ago due to a change of circumstances. Bertie lived with a man during this time and was absolutely fine with him but since coming back to us he has struggled with some males, to the point where he has bitten out of fear in his first foster home. He is now in a foster home with women only, but when a male relative came to visit at Christmas he had Bertie eating out of his hand – both literally and metaphorically!
Bertie came to us from Romania and we think his life before he came has emotionally traumatised him so much that he will never fully recover from it. He was abused by humans and bullied by other dogs. That said, he loves other dogs and not only does he feel safe having them around but he also loves to play with them. He can also live with dog-savvy cats. Bertie has lived with older children, but we feel a child free/teenager only home is best in the circumstances.
Bertie’s ideal home would be a women only household (or a household with a man who is potentially in it for the long-haul until he gains Bertie’s trust and a home with other dogs. Experience of owning a Romanian dog would be the icing on the cake.
Bertie was a pup when he came to us. He was already very shut down and scared and sadly he’s maintained a slight distrust of the world around him due to his past experiences. But we see glimpses of a carefree Bertie and in the right home we believe they will become more and more frequent, until one day he realises this is it – he’s actually completely safe.
Bertie is now around four years old and we would love to start this year with the very best news for him.
