Jeff is just over 1 year old male Great Dane cross Greyhound. He is absolutely stunning to look at. Jeff is not just a looker, he has a kind and affectionate nature that is just as amazing. Jeff will need to be in an active family as he has a lot of energy, loves to go on long walks, but he also loves nothing more than a lap to snuggle on, he is 100% house clean. But he loves food, especially human food, and will steal from the kitchen worktop if you leave anything tasty out. Jeff is good with other dogs, and has been around horses most of his life. He is used to stable yard cats, would chase if they run, walk away if they didn’t, but he didn’t go round looking for cats to chase.
Jeff has not really been around small children, and their excitement and screaming gets him hyped up and over excited, he then bounces around like Tigger from Winnie the Pooh, and ‘mouths’ hands and arms when over excited, obviously not ideal with tiny kids. So teenagers and up. He travels well but after a bad experience can worry about getting into a vehicle if no other dogs are going too. Due to this past incident he will cower, and hit the floor shaking if you raise your voice in anger, or wave you hands or anything at him.
Once Jeff has bonded with a person, he is the most loving boy and will sound the alarm if he feels his loved ones are threatened, in true Great Dane style. He walks well on a lead and has a great recall off lead, and is trained to a whistle.
We are looking for a spacious home for this big lad. He needs a calm patient family who don’t loose their tempers and shout and rant at each other, or him, when things go wrong. He is best suited to a Country home, or at least one with very large gardens, and ready access to forests, beaches and good safe off lead walking areas.
Jeff is at the Sanctuary near Kidwelly in South Wales. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet him at the Sanctuary, after completing an application questionnaire, and a home check.
