Teddy is a 2 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Teddy has come into our care as the owners have had a baby and cannot manage both dog and baby and are not coping. Teddy is neutered, micro chipped and vaccinated. Typical of a dog his age he is quite boisterous and bouncy. Although he is a very friendly dog, he can generally be quite anxious-kennel life is doing him no favours at all. He can also be a little tense and nervous of new situations e.g meeting new people and other animals. Through no fault of his own he’s not had the required socialisation growing up so he’s quite boisterous and a bit of a worrier around dogs, for this reason some dogs don’t always take to him. With some he can be quite calm and more focussed on his handler especially when food is involved! There is a possibility in time that depending on the other dog and if he is managed correctly, he may be able to walk along side a familiar dog.
Teddy is a lovely boy but will need a committed owner who can help and manage him appropriately in these areas. Someone who has experience of delivering positive reward based training and work on basic training and focus work; advice and information will be given on how to achieve this. Someone who has owned or has a lot of knowledge about Staffordshire Bull Terriers and their traits as their normal Staffordshire Bull Terrier playful behaviours can be misconstrued otherwise. He’s a typical Staffordshire Bull Terrier in that he jumps up/mouths at people (Staffordshire Bull Terriers can be over friendly and excited and want to get as close to you as possible!), so for this reason it’ll be an adult only home, a quiet location perhaps where there is not too much going on due to his anxiety. After all, if he’s not put into stressful situations he won’t feel the need to be anxious and therefore behave accordingly.
Teddy really is a lovely boy, he just needs a committed owner who can help and guide him appropriately. Staffordshire Bull Terrier are loyal, friendly, enthusiastic and usually extremely affectionate-perfect!
