Sky – 10 month old female Pointer cross Husky

Sky is a 10 month old female Pointer cross Husky. Sky is a rescue from Cyprus, who has flown to a foster home in Salisbury, to help her find her forever home. Here is a little about her: Sky is a loving, caring, gentle soul who is eager to please her humans. She loves nothing more than having a run around, lots of play time and loads of cuddles. Sky was lucky to be in a fabulous foster home when she was in Cyprus so she is very well socialised. She will happily settle down calmly for a doze or with a chew toy to gnaw away on. She very much enjoys paddling in our paddling pool and loved sniffing her way around the local woods for the first ever time. She will also sometimes be seen (and heard!) carrying her cuddly squeaky toy around the house and playing with this. She is very good on a loose lead and even when we have let her off lead for a short time she has stayed close by. Sky loves her food and therefore should be quite easy to train using food rewards. She already knows ‘sit’ and ‘kisses’ and will copy the resident dog when asked to ‘lie down’.

Despite her love of food she has not shown any food aggression with us around our dog or the cats and has never tried to snatch food from us or the children. She is a very well mannered girl. She has been great with the resident (smaller) dog and they play well together. She has also had no problems meeting other dogs out on walks. She gets slightly anxious of new people entering the house or meeting some (men) on walks but is never aggressive, rather she turns to us for reassurance/cuddles until she feels secure and ready to approach in her own time.

Sky has been wonderfully gentle around our young children and around the cats too so I would have no problem in recommending her to a home with children or small furries. Despite having never lived in a house before she is perfectly house trained and sleeps all night without a peep from her. First thing in the morning when going down to let her out she loves cuddles and a fuss made of her first before going out to toilet and have a stretch, a run around and a play. She is currently sleeping in the utility room but could probably be quite easily crate trained. She has not yet been left on her own so we are not sure whether she might display separation anxiety. However she will happily settle down in her bed with something to gnaw on when separated for quiet, calm time as long as she has had plenty of exercise or playtime beforehand. She was used to previously being around lots of dogs and here with us is around lots of people so a family home where she has others around most of the time would be great for her. She also seems to like having a set routine and I think this would really help her to settle in quickly.

Sky is also totally blind in her left eye from a (possibly malicious) injury prior to being rescued by the charity. The vets who operated were able to keep the eye intact and she has no other problems with this and certainly does not let it hold her back. Sky is very intelligent (has already worked out how to open doors) and very food and people orientated so I am sure she would thrive with further obedience training and canine enrichment games. She just needs a loving family to call her own.

If you are interested in adopting Sky, please contact us. We have no doubt that she will make her forever family very happy. She has been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. The minimum adoption donation for Sky is £275. ADOPTION IS SUBJECT TO HOME CHECK. Full post adoption support is offered by our charity.
