Silko is a devastatingly handsome largeish medium sized Cross-Breed. He’s believed to be around four years old. Silko is fostered in Gt Yarmouth (FR001). We were asked to take Silko after seeing a video of him posted on Facebook. I guess really he was just another scared dog in a public shelter, of which there are a million, but he’d been brought to our attention and we were happy to offer him a chance. On arrival he was pretty shut down but he allowed himself to be bathed and groomed without a fuss and then he pretty much hid up for weeks.
Getting him interested in life again didn’t happen overnight but he does love his food and the temptation to scrounge at feed times was too much so at jlast he began to emerge from the backs of crates and started to make regular appearances in our daily lives. Lead training was quite quick really and the sights and sounds of country walks really brought him fully back to us. He’s still very weary of strangers these days but he no longer hides himself away and sometimes even forgets himself and allows me to fuss him.
As more time passes his confidence will continue to grow but he needs somewhere with maybe only one or two other dogs where he can really get more human interaction and truly flourish. It’s going to require real love and commitment for Silko to reach his full potential but he’s now a happy and playful boy with a real glint of mischief in those once dead eyes. The affection will come later down the line but I know he’s going to be worth the wait.
