Minty – 4 year old female Cross-Breed

Minty is a beautiful small to medium sized four year old Cross-Breed. This pretty little dog has wasted over three of her four years in the Botosani public shelter in Romania. Like many of the long termers in shelters all over the world Minty is scarred emotionally by her ordeal. Even dogs that enter the shelter ‘normal’ and friendly will eventually lose their enthusiasm and all zest for life and learn to treat human approach with caution. Undoing this long term damage is like peeling back the layers of an onion.

Minty arrived terrified and untouchable. We pushed gently through that barrier and she was bathed and groomed. A bit later on she was lead trained and now she could start enjoying the big wide world. Now she needs a new home. Minty is still weary of being touched but she is so happy now. Its amazing to see her tail no longer between her legs but held proud and wagging. She is one of the first at the door when she sees me reach for her lead and she’s running loose on the fields and beaches having the time of her life. She does need to live with at least one other confident dog and she is still a few months away from being “normal”. She needs a home where she can get regular intermittent interaction so that she becomes used to human handling and learn to look forward to it without fear.

Trust me when I tell you that embarking on the journey with a nervous dog and watching them grow in confidence is an experience like no other. The reward emotionally as they take each step forward is something money cannot buy. So yes, if you come to see Minty initially she is not going to come up to you with her tail wagging but that first time when she does greet you a few weeks down the line with a wagging tail and a happy dance it’s going to be like Christmas came early!

I firmly believe that all the best relationships in life are worth working for you just need the vision and the love to look past the fear and see the dog that she will become.
