Best Friends Animal Society is celebrating the red, white and blue with a effort to save 10,000 companion animals in 10 days– and devotees of dogs and fans of felines are tickled pink at the news that we can all help during this crucial time at US shelters!
Pay It Forward
A part of Best Friends Animal Society‘s ongoing Save Them All campaign, which strives to save the lives of dogs and cats in shelters across the US, starting June 25th Pay It Forward lets animal lovers cover the $25 cost to adopt for a future pet parent at any of the more than 270 participating rescue organizations and animal shelters throughout the US.
People with a passion for compassion are invited to donate an adoption fee at www.save-them-all.org, and help to spread the word about Pay It Forward on social media by posting a photo or comment using the hashtags #PayItForward and #SaveThemAll.
“If you get excited when a stranger pays for your coffee, imagine the joy you’ll bring to someone who is ready to adopt their next best friend and finds out the adoption fee has been covered,” Julie Castle, chief executive officer of Best Friends Animal Society, states.
The Importance of Pay It Forward
While the Independence Day holiday is a time of family-oriented fun topped by fireworks, for our four-legged friends the fourth can be a time of fear and confusion. In their search for safety from the unfamiliar sights and sounds that surround this time of year many dogs and cats flee, and more find themselves in animal shelters in July than at any other month of the year. In Los Angeles and New York City animal shelters, there is a respective 20 and 27 percent jump in the daily arrival of dogs and cats in July than in any other month. Finding forever families for 10,000 canines and cats in the days leading up to the holiday will help to clear shelter kennels and cages before the influx of pets who panicked during presentations of pyrotechnics begins.
Choose the Option of Adoption
As we celebrate the date when our country began, potential pet parents can also celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in their lives with a new furry family member! Thanks to the generosity of participating Pay It Forward donors, Best Friends Network Partners from coast to coast (and Best Friends Pet Adoption Centers in New York, L.A., Salt Lake City, Atlanta and the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kaneb, Utah), are offering free pet adoptions from June 25th to July 4th. (The majority of the adoptable dogs and cats have already been spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated and can head to their forever home right away!)
If you don’t know the location the closest adoption center in your area, let Waze show you the way! A navigation app, Waze highlights each adoption center with a paw print, and a click on the map provides more information and directions to the closest center. When cars are at a complete stop, a digital billboard will appear on screen to provide drivers with more information. Animal lovers can also receive information regarding Pay It Forward via inbox messages, and a search for “Best Friends” on the Waze app will showcase the adoption centers participating in the June 25 – July 4 pet adoption event.
