Weight gained during the pandemic is putting more people at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, with those seeking weight loss help from the health service heavier on average than before the start of the coronavirus crisis, according to an NHS study.

People asking for weight-loss help are on average 2.27kg (5lbs) heavier than those starting the programme during the previous three years, the research reveals.
