Sandy is a small female Terrier cross of about 12 years from the UK. She has been with her owner from a young dog but they found that they were no longer able to cope and she came to us early last year. This was when it was discovered that she had multiple tumours. These were removed and then as if she hadn’t already been through enough, she began to lose her sight and is now mostly blind. Sandy fostered in Gorleston-on-Sea, Norfolk.
Sandy is now in her 3rd foster home and doing really well. It did take a couple of months for her to settle, getting used to losing her sight and strange surroundings was very stressful and confusing for her and she could be snappy at times although never actually bit. We believe she also has dementia to a certain extent and although does go outside to the toilet, will also wee inside. We have now ordered her some reusable nappies, to help with this.
Sandy is a very endearing and funny girl, she loves to chase us when the mood takes her or she thinks it’s dinner time and she never fails to put a smile on our faces. She enjoys a good sniff when she is out on her walks and is quite sprightly. She doesn’t need much of a walk every day and is very happy to potter round the garden when she finds her way around. She gets on well with other dogs and my 7 year old daughter and could also live with cats. Sandy currently lives with 5 other dogs with other dogs visiting which she does cope with, but we really feel that she would be much happier in a quieter household as barking dogs frighten her.
