This beauty is Kira. She is a 4 year old Labrador cross and is medium size – she weighs 23kg and is 57cm to the shoulder. She is currently in a rescue in southern Spain until she has a home to go to. Kira spent half of her life tied to a tree 24/7 out in all weathers with just an oil drum and a few tattered blankets for warmth and comfort. Bizarrely, this lovely girl was rescued when she was 2 years old by a Spanish family, from some friends who did not want her any more as their circumstances had changed.
So Kira went from a home to a chain but the family thought that what they were doing was acceptable after all she was fed, she had water (albeit green most of the time) and she had some sort of shelter. But what they and like so many other Spanish people don’t understand is that dogs have souls and dogs like Akira want to be loved and have affection just as much as they need food. She spent 2 years like this and on the very odd occasion she was let out with the Podencos and her owner tried to hunt with her – but she was no good at hunting so she went back onto her chain.
An English lady who lived nearby watched her, every time she drove by, it broke her heart to see this beautiful girl living in such conditions. So one day after a particularly bad storm when her oil drum got flooded, she saw Kira perched on top of it to keep herself dry so she approached the owner and asked if he really did want her? He didn’t – he was more than happy for her to be taken away as she was just one more mouth to feed so after some negotiation her future was planned and she ended up being taken to a lovely shelter in Granada.
Her life there is 95% better than she had. – in fact it is 100% better but of course it could be even better if she was in a home. She is fed and watered. she is not tied up, she has a lovely kennel and run which she shares with another dog and she does get to go out for lovely walks on and off lead but Kira would love a family – and any family willing to adopt her would be the lucky ones. She has an amazing temperament. she absolutely adores people, she is very faithful always walking very close to anyone who walks her, she is obedient and walks so well on and off lead too. She gets on well with all the other dogs, but in an ideal world we feel that she would love to be an only dog, she loves to love and be loved back. She will make someone a wonderful companion.
It’s a well known fact that black dogs are hard to find homes for and so far there have been no enquiries for this pretty girl – which is very sad. Please make it a good year for her and prove this is not the case, and make all her wishes, and ours come true.
Kira is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and has a passport. Homecheck and adoption fees apply.
