Leo – 9 month old male English Cocker Spaniel

Leo is a English Cocker Spaniel and is still a pup at 9 months old. You weighing 13.6kg. Leo’s previous owner used to lock him in his crate all the time or be left behind a gate in the kitchen. He had to eat meals in the crate too so Leo became very guarded of crated contents. Then it was decided that she didn’t want to keep me anymore because she thought He turned aggressive. Leo’s foster mummy, has helped him to learn how to live outside of the crate and to not be so possessive of possessions and food. She’s taught him that He must not steal things that don’t belong like shoes, slippers, toilet rolls and food from humans plates and from the work surfaces in the kitchen.

Leos foster mum has taught him when she clicks her clicker, Hes to give back the item stolen and get a reward, usually a treat as He loves food so much, especially carrots. Please don’t be deterred Leo is still learning essentials, due to his age. If you give Leo a toy and play with him he don’t mind you take things out of his mouth. Leo can be a bit naughty at eat things he shouldn’t out on walks. He does get told off for eating anything horrid like dog/horse/cows poo (yuk), dirty tissues, sticks, an old banana skins, more sticks, plastic bottles, even more sticks and basically anything that looks like fun to chew!! But now it can be swopped for a treat when you press a clicker or even says the word click.

Leo walks well on the lead but can pull a little bit when we first walk as He’s so excited. Leo loves to play off lead and loves other dogs. Sometimes He can be a bit too over playful with smaller dogs but He doesn’t mean to be, it’s just so much fun being out. So when foster mum blows her whistle, Leo happily goes back. Leo loves people and children. He does jump up when He meet people so please Leo will need continued training with what’s good and what’s not, especially around small children. Leo loves to kiss people and finds ears particularly interesting he likes to mouth hands, To Leo this is showing off and getting affection via play and not being nasty. At dinner times He eats food too fast so He has a special bowl that makes him eat slower. Leo does not like this being taken away from him until He’s completely licked every crumb.

As Leos still a puppy, He’s on puppy food. His owner used to not care what he ate and he always had very bad tummy ache. Now he feeds on a lovely puppy food that’s bone shaped and it’s called More. Due to Leo’s need for regular meals He has breakfast around 7am and dinner around 4.30pm and at lunchtime snack , usually have a carrot or a dental stick. He doesn’t snatch food when being offered treats. Leos previous owner didn’t let him sit on the furniture or even go in the lounge. He was always in his cage. But his wonderful foster mummy lets him sit on the furniture, he loves being cuddled and stroked and taken notice of.

Leo is house trained, Likes having a bath and don’t mind being brushed but does think it’s a game! e’s a good boy at the vets and very brave, Probably because he always get a treat. Leo does some commands, give my paw, lie down, sit, and enjoys going out in the car. He doesn’t bark and sits very nicely on the back seat with his seatbelt on. A night He sleeps on a bed next to his foster mums, as her beds too full of her 5 dogs!!! And he’s just too worn out to jump up, he sleeps through the whole night and doesn’t even snore!! He gets let out for a night time wee in the garden at 9.30 and don’t need to go again until woken up which is 6.30-7am.

When you have to go out to the shops He can be left alone but can you please make sure you leave something to chew or play with. He loves a peanut butter kong. Most of the time while you are out, I will just sleep, especially if I’ve had a lovely long walk beforehand. When I’m first introduced to a new water bowl I do a naughty thing and put my front paw in the bowl. Mummy told me not to do this so I did stop doing it in her house. To be on the safe side she has a small towel under. Leo is Neutered, vaccinated, microchipped. Home check and adoption fee applies.

Please continue to teach me right from wrong and I will promise to be the best family pet.
