Annie – 14 month old female Podenco

This little sweetie is Annie. Annie is a 14 month old female Podenco and she is fostered in Gloucestershire. She is a VERY tiny Podenco, and weighs only 5kg. She is no bigger than a toy poodle in height but has a very tiny frame. She is a beautiful little girl who desperately wants to trust and love you. Annie needs a family who can give her the time and space she needs to settle and gain confidence. Annie is a timid little girl who relates better to dogs than she does humans.

We are looking for a home with someone with previous experience with dogs who has plenty of time to train her. She needs to be homed with a confident and playful dog/s of a similar age. She loves to play, and currently has at least 3 playmates at Jo’s home. She is living with teenagers, but they need to be calm and respectful around her. She walks well on a lead although through excitement can pull. She also has good recall off the lead, and is house-trained.

Annie will benefit from being socialised with as many adults, children, dogs (puppies and adults), and other animals as possible. She needs to become used to a wide range of events, environments and situations. Annie has had to be rehomed from a very loving home, where she lived with 3 other sighthounds. Unfortunately Annie would not stop barking when left for a few hours. We think she was fearful and felt she was in charge of her family. This habit has now been broken and Annie is now bottom of the pecking order in her foster home with 6 dogs, 1 adult and 2 teenagers.

This is Annie’s story: Annie was 6 months old when she was found in Spain in a storm drain. Probably due to a trauma to her pelvis, Annie had been dragging her hind foot for such a long time she had worn through to visible bone and had a nasty foot infection. Thankfully with the care and skills of the Spanish vets they were able to save her foot and it is now fully usable although looks a little fatter than the others. She was adopted at 8 months old and upon arrival in the UK in January she was taken to see an orthopaedic vet specialist, who concluded that neither her pelvis nor foot were causing her any pain. Her rehabilitation began with slow walks to build up her muscles and encourage her to start using all 4 feet again. She is so enthusiastic for her walkies that she will run on 3 legs initially purely out of habit but once tired it is easy to encourage her to walk slower where she will use all 4 feet. The only difference it makes to her daily life is she needs the nails trimming more regularly on her repaired foot, which she doesn’t mind having done, to prevent her catching her nails when running or playing.

Annie is neutered, vaccinated, chipped and has a passport. Homecheck and adoption fees apply.
