Pudsey is a 2 year old male Shih Tzu Cross who has come to us via the closure of a sanctuary style rescue. Subsequently we have no information on why he came to be at the rescue in the first place and can only tell you what we have assessed whilst with us (albeit we can’t find much wrong with him.) He is an incredibly sweet little boy who is shy at first but warms up quickly. He loves food and is very food motivated. He gets on well with dogs but doesn’t like bigger dogs than him.
He plays beautifully with smaller and similar sized dogs but utterly hated my Great Dane. We think he might have been attacked at one point in his past by a much larger dog making him very weary of them. Pudsey is a little mouthy when he’s excited but this is not aggression and is easily redirected, he tries to grab hold of your hands. He is incredibly smart and could easily be trick trained, he does have a basic level of obedience and does really well with it.
He’s eager to learn. It was noted when he was taken from the sanctuary that he doesn’t like being grabbed by his collar but after seeing the vet it was confirmed he had severely infected ears so this may have proved a contributing factor. He has been treated for it now and been to the groomers to remove the matting and seems much more comfortable. We haven’t witnessed this behavior and the groomer said he was an incredibly good boy to handle. Pudsey does have a very long coat however it was very matted so needed taking off, new owners will need to be aware of his coat needs.
Pudsey is clean in his kennel but does need a “refresher course” on his house training. We think since it’s been a while since he’s been in a home he will need to relearn but is picking it up quickly. He is crate trained and non destructive in the home and happy to be left for reasonable durations of time. Pudsey is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and will be subject to a homecheck and adoption donation. He will also come with 4 weeks free insurance and a voucher for a box of free food.
