Gimli is a 6 year old Yorkshire Terrier Cross who was surrendered into our care upon a terminal diagnosis of his owner. Sadly this little lad has not had a great deal of socialisation in his life and has been confined to a small flat for 6 years. As a result he is incredibly frightened of strangers and will growl however he soon warms up to people. When we dropped him off at the vets for his neuter he was initially very worried but by the time I picked him up all the vets and nurses had cuddles.
He is just a fearful lad who doesn’t like feeling at sea. Despite not having a lot of access to the outside world Gimli enjoys his walks and walks well on the lead. He is friendly and social with dogs out and is ok to live with another dog as he previously lived with a mastiff however he is food aggressive (with dogs not people.) so would need to be fed separately from any resident dogs. We feel he’d be equally good as an only dog also though. Gimli is generally a good boy and very easy to do aside from his stranger phobia. We feel this will improve with time and patience and more exposure to people.
He is housebroken, non destructive in the home and happy to be left for reasonable durations of time. He doesn’t enjoy being in a crate initially but does settle, however we haven’t had a great need for him to be in one here. Gimli is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and will be subject to a homecheck and adoption donation. He will also come with 4 weeks free insurance and a voucher for a box of free food.
