Porthos is a ten year old chocolate Labrador cross. When Porthos first arrived into my care from Romania I was a little in despair at the unadoptable soul stood before me. He was quite angry at first and would snap if touched. He was dribbling wee constantly and I wasn’t really very sure what to do with him. In order to get him to a vet I first had to make friends with him so that he was handleable. Eventually he clicked with me and decided I was the bees knees and the cats whiskers literally overnight and I could then do anything with him.
The vet visit revealed a bladder stone the size of a tennis ball which must have caused him intense discomfort and pain for some time. Initially it was too big for vets to work around to remove operationally so he had to have a special food for a few weeks to break the stone down until it had shrunk enough to be removed. After the op Porthos’ incontinence was completely cured and he was clearly rejuvenated from finally being out of pain. Porthos is fostered in Norfolk(FR007).
Porthos is still a quirky dog and one that will not easily be rehomed. He is still quite intolerant of being touched by strangers unless bribed with food first! He needs an adult home where someone is home for most of the day as he will bark when left. He does get rather fixated on one person and will become distressed when he cannot get to that person.
Porthos walks well on a lead and is pretty good off lead although does get occasional selective deafness when it comes to recall. We don’t hold out much hope of anyone coming along with the patience and kindness needed to offer Porthos a forever home. The first few days with him will be tough but the right person with the right determination could surely make it work right??
Porthos now enjoys gentle exercise, snoozes on the sofa with his loved ones and regular food and treats. He’s a dear old soul that would love a quiet home with plenty of cuddles in regular supply.
