Ollie – 9 year old male Shih Tzu

Ollie is a 9 year old male Shih Tzu. Ollie originally came to us as a puppy in 2010 due to his owners long work hours, he was then adopted but returned to us in 2016 following the arrival of a new baby in the home after becoming unsettled by the change in his routine. We matched Ollie up to a home with a lady who had already adopted another Shih Tzu from us but unfortunately he has found himself back in our care once again. This time Ollie has been returned for biting on several occasions and also showing aggression towards the other dog in the home. We are told that he would snap at his owner’s feet whilst on the couch if she moved too quickly, and would also protect her from other people.

Ollie is an anxious boy and it is clear that he needs a calm, quiet home where he can be the only pet as we believe that living with another dog contributed to his stress levels and could be the reason why he was displaying the behaviour he was. He has mixed well with other dogs on walks in the past but in this home could be reactive and would bark at other dogs. He does not like cats. Ollie is generally a well behaved, friendly boy. It did not take him long to settle in at the rescue and make friends with the staff. He is happy to be handled, picked up and groomed etc. We feel the aggression Ollie has displayed all stems down to his stress levels.

We are looking for an adult only home for Ollie, free from visiting children or any children planned for the future. Ideally Ollie needs a home with someone experienced with the Shih Tzu breed and their often grumpy ways. He can be a vocal boy and will bark at the door so will need a home where this will not be an issue. He has suffered with separation anxiety in the past so will also need a home with someone around for most/all of the day. Anyone wishing to adopt Ollie will need to make several visits to the rescue in order to form a bond with him before adoption.

Ollie is in good health but will need a dental at some point in the future, however this is something that can be carried out at the rescue if rehomed locally.

Poor Ollie has already endured so much upheaval in his life and desperately deserves some consistency now, he really is a sweet boy who just needs someone that understands him.
