Widget is a small Terrier of about 2 years old. He was born in the public shelter and stayed there with his mum and sister for all of his life. The three of them were recently rescued and brought to the UK for a new life, going to separate foster placements to give me them the best chance of finding a new home. Widget (Pepino) is foster in Dereham (FR029).
Being separated from his family and away from the environment in which he’d spent his whole life was understandably quite stressful for Widget to start with and he was very shy on his arrival. Within a few days though his cheeky little personality started to emerge. He has been getting out and about for walks and enjoying all the sights and smells he’s been denied up to now. He is good on the lead but can still be timid when strange people or dogs approach. This presents as him stopping and trying to hide until he has realised they mean him no harm. This is something that will continue to improve as he has more and more good experiences.
At home, Widget now does a little happy dance when I approach and is happy for me to stroke him. He will follow me around the house to see what I’m up to and is becoming more and more playful with the other dogs here. He’s also been fine with my kids and our free range chickens. What he needs now is to continue his journey in a new home. He would fit well into most households, he is clean at night and can be left for a few hours with no issues. He also travels well in a car.
Widgets new family need to be prepared to give him a bit of space in the first few days while he susses you out and settles in. Once he feels comfortable with you, you will be rewarded with a dear, cheeky little character who is a delight to have around.
