Freddie is a 3 year old male Ibizan Hound (Podenco). Freddie is a medium sized little chap with an almost white smooth coat and little patches of tan. He is a very affectionate little man, very loving and eager to please. He runs straight up to you to greet you very enthusiastically as soon as his kennel is opened and he is a very playful little chap. He is good with other dogs and probably one of our favourites. We think small children would be too much for him and so children over 13 would suit him. A member of the Portuguese rescue was contacted by a friend to say there were two stray dogs hanging around her house and she had been leaving food for them. They both disappeared but a few days later Freddie reappeared alone and very frightened. A volunteer was able to catch him and take him to the shelter.
Freddie came to the shelter a very frightened little boy. But within 20 minutes of being with him and showing him love and affection, he soon started to come round. He is still nervous in unknown situations and needs work on the lead as he gets quite frightened but he is one of the sweetest dogs at the shelter. He is more nervous with men as we believe he was an ex hunting dog and was probably badly abused. However, the shelter are working on this and he is improving. His confidence gets better each day but we think he needs another dog to live with. He hasn’t met any cats but we may be able to do this if required.

We can not home dogs from Portugal to people who work full time or long hours, unless some sort of doggy day care is offered. They need someone at home a lot of the day, they are not used to being alone for long periods. A dog walker for an hour out of the day is not enough. Leaving dogs a long time on their own means they are highly likely to develop separation anxiety which is distressing for them and everyone in their new home.
Adoption Fee : £275 – to be paid direct to the Portuguese rescue to cover travel costs via UK bank account
