Loki – 2 year old male Labrador Cross

Loki is a 2 year old male Labrador Cross. Loki is a rescue from Cyprus, currently living with his foster mum in Kingsbridge, Devon, whilst he waits for his forever family to find him. Here is a little about him: Loki’s pet passport states Labrador Cross, however we think he may also have whippet too as he shows some sight hound characteristics too. Loki is a very sweet and loving dog. He has bonded quickly with his foster mum. He loves human attention and affection and is very loyal. He is a sensitive little soul and is still a little nervous, but with reassurance he calms very quickly. He loves to snuggle in a comfy bed and will make the best of friends for someone. Loki hasn’t had much training in his life so far but is proving a fast learner. With time and patience and kind handling he will be a cracking little dog.

Loki is nervous of dogs bigger than himself, but again, with gentle introductions and lots of reassurance he is soon fine. He is happily living with the resident Labradors and Springer in his foster home. Loki is good on the lead with either a harness or collar. He can pull a little but this is not excessive and he is improving every day. He is good when eating his food around other dogs and children. He can get nervous of the bigger dogs if they get too close and he barks at them, but again with reassurance he soon calms. With other dogs, especially larger ones, Loki needs a careful and gentle introduction. He is a fearful dog at the moment, but once he gets to know them, he is fine. Loki is also living with two Pomeranians and has shown no fear of them at all.

Loki exercises happily off the lead with dogs of all sizes. Loki is great with children and other people. He was nervous of my very tall husband to begin with but as he has spent time making a fuss of Loki, Loki has realised that he is nothing to be scared of. His foster mum’s 6 year old son handles Loki, takes him walking on the lead and gives him big hugs. Loki loves this! Loki is not good with cats and poultry. He really needs to be in a home without small furries or cats. He has a strong prey drive, as is typical of whippet-type dogs. He would thrive in a home as an only dog or with one or two other, preferably smaller dogs. He has been in a crate overnight and he was fine. Now he sleeps loose with 2 other dogs in the room with him. He is quiet at night and has been left at home for several hours with just two other dogs for company. Loki has not showed signs of separation anxiety when being left with other dogs for company.

Loki would absolutely thrive in a home where he got lots of human attention and love. He would prefer a quieter and calm home as he is still nervous about life in general. Loki needs someone with lots of time and patience to bring out the best in him. He loves to run and would love plenty of exercise, both on and off the lead. With lots of reassurance and confidence giving, Loki will reward you with being the best friend you ever had. Loki needs all the basic training that you feel you would like to give him and he responds well and learns quickly with positive reinforcement.
