Safira is an 8 year old female Labrador Cross. Lovely lady Safira is a medium sized girl with a black glossy coat who’s looking for a home all to herself. Safira is a very sweet girl who came to the shelter after her owner died. We don’t believe Safira shared the house with her owner as she had a kennel outside.
When she first came to the shelter she was very withdrawn and didn’t really get on with anyone. But, as time went by, she started to interact with the volunteers and enjoyed going on her walks.
Safira gets on okay with other dogs, but she does suffer from food aggression so would possibly be better as an ‘only’ child. She has turned into a very sweet and friendly dog but she is insecure and needs someone who can give her confidence with time and patience.
If you can offer her that, then you will have a lovely faithful dog. She is a dog focused on her owner so she will be jealous of other dogs in the house so we think a retired person would be a good owner for her. She is loving and loyal to her owner. Current location is in a foster home in Birmingham, West Midlands.
Adoption Fee : £270 – to be paid direct to the Portuguese rescue to cover new, excessive, extra EU travel costs, via UK bank account.
Rafeiro is a 5 year old male Siberian Husky Cross. He is a handsome boy who has a beautiful rich brown coat with a mix of cream and lovely brown eyes and he stands to medium height.
Rafeiro came to the shelter from an abusive household. His owner was an alcoholic and many times Rafeiro was left without food and water. It’s because of this mis treatment that he was removed and brought to the shelter. When he arrived, he was very thin and quite aggressive. He didn’t trust people and he felt threatened. It’s taken a while to gain Rafeiro’s trust.
He is now a very healthy weight as he loves his food and that is certainly the way to his heart. He loves to play and really enjoys cuddles, something we thought might never happen. But check out the videos and see what a delightful boy he has become.
He loves his walks and often stands by the gate hoping to be one of the lucky ones who gets to go out. Because of his past history we would recommend he is homed with older responsible children. He loves being around other dogs.
He is friendly, happy and loving, likes to part of the gang! Current location is in Portugal can travel to the UK once he has a home to go to.
Adoption Fee : £415– to be paid direct to the Portuguese rescue to cover new, excessive, extra EU travel costs, via UK bank account.
Pongo is an 18 month old male Shar-Pei Cross. Wonderful Pongo is a medium sized gentle and calm boy and he has a short smooth brindle coat. We rescued him in a field, he was so afraid, very skinny and emaciated.
He is so intelligent, immediately he trusted us, and in now in only three weeks, with good food and a lot of cuddles, he is completely recovered! Now he is 25 kg of pure love!
Pongo is very smart dog, he likes to walk, and he walks on lead very well, without pulling. But his best points is that he is extremely affectionate, he loves human company and enjoys the attention.
Pongo is very gentle and friendly, with dogs ( better female), with cats, children over 12 years. He is good in the car and when he goes to the vet, he is a very obedient, nice character, absolutely no bad behaviour at all. He is confident despite being abandoned, house trained, he is now in a loving foster home.
Pongo doesn’t like to be left alone for long periods, and he needs a well fenced garden with high fence, he is able to jump over low fencing, not to escape, just because he is very affectionate and he wants follow you.
Pongo will be a great companion for someone, noble, affectionate and easy going doggie. He is extremely affectionate, he loves human company and enjoys attention.
Current location is in a foster home in Spain, he can travel to the UK once he has a home to go to.
Adoption Fee : £480 – to be paid direct to the Spanish rescue to cover new, excessive, extra EU travel costs, via UK bank account.
This boy is Nemo, a 10 year old male Shar-Pei cross Husky. He is light tan and white, short-coated chap of medium build. He has a very nice character. We are waiting for more information on his height and weight and if he has ever lived with cats.
Nemo is homeless now because his owner is homeless and she can’t keep all her dogs, so some have to be found new homes asap.
Nemo would love a quiet home with an experienced owner, who will be able to manage his strength on lead. We think no children and no cats would be best for him. He loves his cuddles and is very affectionate.
Current location is in a foster home in Spain can travel to the UK once he has a home to go to.
Nix is a 7 month old male Ibizan Hound (Podenco). Handsome Nix is a beige and white, short-coated, medium sized pup. He is a wonderful, happy, daft puppy who just loves life, he came from a home with his friend Sox.
Nix is super human friendly and is good with children. He just loves to run around and play all day long, then enjoys a big puppy cuddle. Nix is house trained and good in the house. He enjoys his daily walks and is very good on a lead. Nix would easily fit into a young family who love outdoor life.
For anyone looking to adopt 2 new dogs then Sox and Nix make a perfect pair. As he has always lived with another dog, we would like a home with another dog present to play with. He is confident, playful, good on lead, used to living indoors.
Current location is in Spain can travel to the UK once he has a home to go to in APRIL.
Adoption Fee : £510 – to be paid direct to the Spanish rescue to cover new, excessive, extra EU travel costs, via UK bank account
Nipsy is a nine month old male Wheaten Terrier cross Lurcher. He came into our care as his family could no longer keep him. He is Greyhound size so not a small Lurcher. Nipsy is currently in foster as an only dog but could be homed with another dog or dogs. The dog/s must be able to tolerate his playing, he couldn’t live with an older dog or a dog who prefers their own company as he does like to play.
He is housetrained and can be left for brief periods, but due to his age, we would prefer someone to be around most of the time to occupy him. Socialising with other dogs is still ongoing, he loves to play with other dogs and greet other dogs, but can at times be giddy when he’s on his lead if he sees other dogs playing and running.
He has had some recall work in a quiet place and has done well, but this is something that still needs to be worked on in general. He hasn’t been let offlead in un secure areas where there are distractions for example in a park.
In the home, he sleeps by himself and knows routines. When he arrived , he did push every boundary, he was quite pushy, this is something he will do if he’s not kept to a routine and given fair but firm guidance. He is certainly at the age where he he could potentially become a stroppy teenager! He would be better living with older children or adults, he is not cat friendly.
Nipsy is going to make somebody a super little friend, if you could offer him the home he deserves, bearing in mind he is a young lurcher and can be a handful at times, please contact us.
Nipsy is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and flead and wormed. He can be homed both locally and nationally dependent on a successful homecheck.
Nineteen-year-old, who has sickle cell disease, left his home on 22 March, saying he was going to visit a friend
A London mother is seeking help to find her son who has been missing for over a week.
Student Richard Okorogheye, 19, who has sickle cell disease, said he was “struggling to cope” with university pressures and had been shielding during lockdown, according to his mother, Evidence Joel.
The Metropolitan police said officers were becoming increasingly concerned about the teenager who was believed to have left his family home in the Ladbroke Grove area of west London on 22 March. He was reported missing on 24 March.
Joel told the MyLondon website: “Richard has never done anything like this. Something has gone wrong.” He would only leave the house to go to hospital for regular blood transfusions for his condition.
Joel recalled him saying he was going to visit a friend, although none of them had seen him, telling her to drive safe and that he would “see me later”, she told the website.
She returned home from a nursing shift at around 9pm and assumed he was in his room. She cooked him a meal but found he was not there when she knocked on his door and he did not answer his telephone.
The alarm was raised after a locksmith helped her gain entry to the room which was empty but Richard’s wallet, bus pass and bank card were left behind.
The teenager was last seen leaving his home and heading in the direction of Ladbroke Grove, west London, on 22 March at approximately 8.30pm, police said. Officers added that he was known to frequent London’s Westminster and Hammersmith and Fulham areas.
Chief inspector Clare McCarthy, of the Met’s Central West Command Unit, said: “Our officers have been working tirelessly to locate Richard, using all investigative opportunities and data inquiries, speaking with witnesses and trawling CCTV.
“We are following every lead possible and are appealing for the public to help us in our work.
“If you may have seen Richard, please contact police. If Richard is safe and well, we ask him to contact us as a matter of urgency so that we can put his family’s minds at ease.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting 21MIS008134, or they can call 999 in an emergency.
They could also go online at https://www.missingpeople.org.uk to pass any information on to the charity Missing People.

Mission to check out treatment of Uighur minority is backed by Beijing, says secretary-general António Guterres
The UN has begun negotiations with Beijing for a visit “without restrictions” to Xinjiang to see how the Uighur minority is being treated, secretary-general António Guterres said in an interview broadcast.
At least one million Uighurs and people from other mostly Muslim groups have been held in camps in the north-western region, according to US and Australian rights groups, which accuse Chinese authorities of forcibly sterilising women and imposing forced labor.

“Thou aeronautical boll weevil / Illuminate yon woods primeval,” the Mills Brothers sang in 1952, imploring glow-worms to “Light the path below, above / And lead us on to love”. John Keats, comparing the fairness of goddess Psyche with the bright white moon and the evening star (spoiler: she is fairer than both), refers to the star as an “amorous glow-worm of the sky”. Seamus Heaney poked a glow-worm with a blunt stick and “a tiny brightening den lit the eye” – turning the stick into a wand.

The Football Association is to look at new formats for football matches and will encourage ground staff to maintain their pitches via an app in a push to do more with less and save the grassroots game.
As participation sports returns next week, a new four-season strategy – Survive, Revive and Thrive – will lay out the FA’s vision for the game post-Covid. Included in £180m of funding is money for pitches, alongside commitments to help clubs with fees and funding for football in deprived communities. But with the game and its governing body suffering financial challenges because of the pandemic, the money will have to work hard.
