At a press briefing on Tuesday, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said President Trump reads the President’s Daily Brief, and added that he is “the most informed person on planet earth when it comes to the threats that we face.”
Nine months ago, Smash the Pit Bull was in a deadly crash with his mom, Tabitha Leslie. Unfortunately, Leslie didn’t survive, but Smash made it out alive. He was in shock after the incident, so he must have run off in fear. When officers and other bystanders neared the scene, they didn’t see any sign of a dog nearby.
However, Leslie’s family members knew how important Smash was to her. So, they searched for him right away. They frequently drove around the area of the crash, determined to find the lost pup and bring him to safety.
The Search for Smash
Jennifer Burkart, Leslie’s sister, spent a lot of her time searching for Smash. She lived about 2 hours away from the scene, which was in Tulare County, California. Even so, she kept driving back and forth to search for Smash. She also posted about Smash in local Facebook groups, where she quickly gained lots of support. Soon, everyone was hoping that the Pit Bull would return home safely.
It was unclear as to whether or not Smash had any injuries from the accident. Burkart prayed that he was safe and sound, and she never gave up hope that he’d return. She knew that her sister would want her to find the pup, so she couldn’t give up.
Finally, about nine months after the deadly crash, Smash was located. An animal control officer found him tied to another dog and a cowbell. When Tulare County Animal Services took the dogs in, they scanned them for microchips. Smash’s microchip was still connected to Leslie’s information. Luckily, the employees remembered seeing posts about Smash, so they contacted one of the numbers on the lost dog poster.
Smash is Safe!
A connection was quickly made thanks to Smash’s microchip and all the posts online. Burkart did an amazing job spreading the word about Smash. Family members of Leslie traveled to Tulare that same day to pick up the dog.
Burkart shared the good news all over Facebook groups. She also shared a photo of Smash being reunited with them and a photo of him on his way home. He looks excited to see familiar faces again.
“I just want to say a huge thank you to Tulare Animal Services and everybody in Visalia that’s helped,” Burkart wrote on Facebook. “It’s been 9 months since my sister’s accident and we never gave up hope. I just want to say thank you. WE DID IT SISTER!!”
No one knows where Smash was for those nine months, but what’s important is that he’s safe and healthy now. He might not be able to be reunited with his mom, but he’s lucky to have other family members to care for him. They truly love him so much.

Booking a pet friendly hotel can be a tricky proposition. While more and more accommodations are allowing pets, the degree of enthusiasm you and your cat or dog will experience runs the gamut. Though they all refer to themselves as “pet friendly,” hotel policies and attitudes range from over-the-top accommodating to barely pet tolerant.
How can you be sure the pet friendly hotel you choose will meet your needs and make you and your pet feel welcome? Ask the following questions, and you’ll have all the information to make the best decision!
Pet Friendly Hotel Questions
1. Does the hotel accept pets?
It’s always best to start with the obvious, and make sure the hotel is still pet friendly. Hotel pet polices change quickly, and “pet friendly” doesn’t translate to “cat friendly” when it comes to booking hotels. Also check to see if you’ll need to bring proof of your pets’ vaccinations when you check in.
It’s common for hotels to impose weight restrictions. But if you’ve found the perfect hotel, except your pup is too big, ask if they’ll make an exception. Remember, the hotel wants your business, and they know they’re competing with a lot of other hotels for your dollars.
We’ve found that most hotels have a little wiggle room in their size limitations and will try to accommodate you when asked. Just be sure to make a note of the person you spoke to, in case there’s any question when you’re checking in.
3. How many pets per room?
When you travel with multiple pets, it’s important to know if you can stay in the same room. Some hotels, like Red Roof Inns, have a pet policy allowing only one pet per room. Other chains, like Kimpton, never impose a limit on the number of pets welcome to join you. Every hotel is different.
4. Are there pet fees?
This is where the hotel’s true pet friendly colors will show. Additional pet fees range from free to charges that can double the nightly room rate! Whether they’re charged per night, per stay, per pet, be sure you have a clear understanding of the all the charges before making your reservation. Also ask whether any portion of the fee is refundable if the room isn’t damaged during your stay.
5. Are pet travelers limited to specific pet friendly rooms?
It used to be that some hotels would designate their less desirable rooms as pet friendly – even using the same rooms for pets and smokers. Though things have improved, some hotels still limit pets to certain rooms. If you prefer a specific room location, find out front if your request can be accommodated.
6. What amenities does the hotel offer?
The most important amenity is always a convenient, grassy pet relief area. But some hotels also provide treats at check-in, pet beds and bowls in the room, doggy room service menus, spa treatments, and pet sitting services. There are also hotels that have restaurants with pet friendly patios. And some even host a “yappy hour” in the lobby each evening. Deciding how much to pamper your pooch is entirely up to you!
7. Can you leave pets unattended in the room?
Determining whether the hotel allows pets to be left alone in the room while you step out for something to eat or run an errand helps you plan appropriately. Pets on their own generate two primary concerns: damage to the room, and noise that disturbs other guests. To avoid those situations, hotels often require pets to be crated when you’re away.
8. Are there areas of the hotel that are off limits to pets?
Pets generally can’t go in breakfast areas, restaurants, pools, and fitness rooms. But we stayed at one hotel that didn’t even allow pets in the lobby! Before you arrive, be sure you know where your pet’s welcome and where he’s not.
We want you to kick back, relax, and enjoy your next pet friendly vacation! Asking these questions before making your hotel reservation will help. During your conversation, take notes with time and date and the first and last name of the hotel employee. After that, all that’s left to do is pack a bag and hit the road!
Does your officemate now have four paws, a sniffy nose and a waggy tail? Instead of chatting by the coffee machine at work, are you playing tug, giving belly rubs, and going on walkies between Zoom calls? If so, the Humane Rescue Alliance could use your help.
The pandemic has caused major changes to people’s lives across the globe. We do not know for sure how this stressful time might be impacting the welfare of pet dogs or what carryover effects it might have when dogs suddenly find themselves home alone down the road, but the Humane Rescue Alliance has embarked (pardon the pun) on a study to find out. While we obviously hope we will not experience anything similar again, this does give us a unique opportunity to examine the effects of major changes to routine on our canine companions.
The other day I was doing a Facebook Live with my friend, Dr. Laurie Coger, when someone watching mentioned that raw goat's milk is a great source for taurine. How did I forget this? After that moment, I started thinking about other sources of taurine because I mostly focus on dark meat and nothing more. […]

One of Kentucky’s most unpredictable political races in years is headed toward the wire Tuesday, but it’s taking a full week after the June 23 primary to sort out a possible photo finish in the Democratic U.S. Senate contest. Absentee ballots that stacked up amid the coronavirus pandemic have delayed the vote count in the neck-and-neck race between progressive candidate Charles Booker and establishment-backed Amy McGrath. Both are vying for the chance to take on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who coasted to victory in the GOP primary in his bid for a seventh term.
Three men have been arrested for murder in the case of Audrey Moran and Jonathan Reynoso, who have been missing since 2017. Manuel Rios, of Coachella, Abraham Fregoso, of Indio, and Jesus Ruiz Jr., of Stockton, were taken into custody on Saturday, June 27, 2020, and booked in Riverside County Jail. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
A divided Supreme Court on Monday struck down a Louisiana law regulating abortion clinics, reasserting a commitment to abortion rights over fierce opposition from dissenting conservative justices in the first big abortion case of the Trump era. Chief Justice John Roberts and his four more liberal colleagues ruled that a law that requires doctors who perform abortions must have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals violates abortion rights the court first announced in the landmark Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. The outcome is far from the last word on the decades-long fight over abortion with dozens of state-imposed restrictions winding their way through the courts.
The Mississippi state legislature voted on Sunday to remove the emblem of the Confederacy from the state flag.State residents had previously been resistant to changing the flag, however polling from the state’s Chamber of Commerce indicated that 55 percent of residents now supported removing the Confederate symbol.“In the nearly 20 years we have held the position of changing the state flag, we have never seen voters so much in favor of change,” Scott Waller, president of the Mississippi Economic Council, said on Thursday. “These recent polling numbers show what people believe, and that the time has come for us to have a new flag that serves as a unifying symbol for our entire state."Governor Tate Reeves, a Republican, said he would sign legislation to change the flag after previously expressing ambivalence."The argument over the 1894 flag has become as divisive as the flag itself and it’s time to end it. If they send me a bill this weekend, I will sign it,” Reeves wrote on Facebook on Saturday.“I would guess a lot of you don’t even see that flag in the corner right there,” Mississippi state Representative Ed Blackmon, a Democrat and African American who has served in the legislature continuously since 1983, said on Saturday. “There are some of us who notice it every time we walk in here, and it’s not a good feeling."The push to remove the Confederate emblem comes amid massive nationwide demonstrations over the death of George Floyd, an African American man killed during arrest by Minneapolis police officers. Activists have called to remove the symbol of the secessionist states, which broke away from the union to preserve the system of slavery, as well as monuments to Confederate leaders from prominent public spaces. NASCAR has announced that it will ban spectators from waving the Confederate flag at races.
