Dog Daycare Center Under Investigation Following Video Of Abuse

We worry enough about our dogs when we drop them off at daycare. Do they miss us? Are they scared? Are they getting enough food? Enough play time? Our dogs are our babies after all, and even these little things can get in your head. So stories about animal day care employees mistreating the animals in their care hit extra hard.

SCRAPS (Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Services) began an investigation into a daycare in Spokane Valley, Washington this week. An incident of abuse occurred at Jeanne’s Doggie Daycare & Pet Hotel on Tuesday, February 25th, and the whole thing was captured on [disturbing] video.

The video that initially went viral on Facebook has since been taken down, but as of this post a copy exists here. [Content warning: the video contains abusive actions towards an animal.]

Screenshot, @emily.custer.184/Facebook

In the video taken from afar, you can see two employees walking with two different dogs. Seemingly to separate the two from one another, one employee visibly strikes the other dog on the head. The other employee stands back for a moment before following the other two inside. Needless to say, it’s upsetting to watch.

The Viral Video Aftermath

According to a manager at the daycare, the other employee in the video reported her coworker immediately. He has since been fired, the manager informed KHQ.

“Following the incident (Tuesday morning,) I received a call from the staff member involved. She told me what happened and expressed her concern for the dog. I immediately was on my way to the location and had him pulled from the dogs. I drove out there to investigate and assess the situation.”

As for comment from the terminated employee, the [anonymous] manager provided none. She alleges that the abuser was fired before the video ever went viral on social media. As far as she knows, that employee had never committed animal abuse before.

“I did not give him the opportunity to say anything. The video is disturbing.”

Naturally, with so many eyes on it, the video prompted an overwhelming negative response. The daycare manager says they’ve received threats from people all over the country. That’s largely why she preferred to remain anonymous.

Jeanne’s Doggie Daycare & Pet Hotel’s Facebook page became flooded with negative reviews. It currently sits at 1 star. Most came to express outrage at the video without having boarded their own pets there. Some referred to other incidents of abuse with this daycare in the past, though those are unconfirmed.

The facts are still coming in as of now, but all of it certainly reads as fishy! Please don’t hesitant to properly report any abuse towards animals you witness.

Couple Has Their Entire Bridal Party Made Of Dogs

If you’ve ever planned a wedding, then you know the definition of stress. It’s one thing to find the venue and work out all of the logistics of the big day. It’s an entirely different ordeal to play referee with dueling bridesmaids and gruff groomsmen. One couple solved those problems in the best way possible.

A Bridal Party With 32 Feet

There were no humans on either side of their bridal party- just their seven dogs! It was a bridal party with a grand total of 32 feet! Sophie, Kyuubi, Serena, Skit, Sugar, Stark and Stella made their incredible debut during their parents’ wedding ceremony and the internet has fallen in love with them ever since!

@TeamBenitezPhoto@Facebook

Francis Cleofas and his new wife Irene run a dog training business. Francis is a highly sought dog behavior consultant known as the “Dog Coach.” Their perfectly prim and proper pooches stood by the newlyweds on the happiest day of their lives. Is there really any better way to celebrate a love story?

One of the delightful doggies even acted as their flower girl! She strutted her stuff down the aisle, complete with a flowered crown and a beautiful blush rose in her mouth.

“Stella and Serena were flower girls and Stark was the ring security. The rest walked with the groomsmen and bridesmaids,” the happy couple told Bride and Breakfast.

@TeamBenitezPhoto@Facebook

Some of the puppers even wore matching bow ties! No detail was spared and there was nothing these pups wouldn’t do to make the day special. The four-legged friends even got in on the couple’s pre-vow pictures!

@TeamBenitezPhoto@Facebook

Loving Eyes And Pawsitively Happy Tails

You know those “first look” photos where the groom’s reaction is caught when he first sees his breath-taking bride? Check out the adorable first look Irene’s furbaby had. You can just feel the love in his eyes!

@TeamBenitezPhoto@Facebook

There is no better way to celebrate your love and commitment than by including dogs. Their loyalty, dedication, and forgiveness are an example of the kind of love humans should have for each other every day.

“They make every day better. We never thought of going to places and meeting inspiring people if not for them,” said the couple. “They remind us that it’s the simple things in life that matter, like getting home safe after a long day. They are a reminder to live in the moment and not to judge or discriminate.”

Just one question remains. Which lucky dog caught the bouquet?

Rescue Dog’s Death Inspires Woman To Write Children’s Book

Death often happens when we least expect it. We don’t go around thinking that we’re going to lose our loved ones, but then it happens and we don’t know what to do with ourselves. This is especially true for losing dogs since they live such short lives. Even though we know they won’t live forever, we still don’t know how to cope with it when we finally do lose them. However, author Amy Kite decided to use the loss of her own dog to help others.

Image: @AmyKiteAuthor/Facebook

Gus’ Story

Gus was an adorable Bichon mix that Kite adopted from a local shelter. She and her 3 kids had bonded with Gus quickly in just a short amount of time. He was a young pup at only 2 years old, so they figured he still had a long life ahead of him.

However, when Kite was walking Gus one day, something out of the ordinary happened. Gus got stung by a bee and had a horrible allergic reaction! Before she could even process what was happening, he was already gone.

Just like that, Gus was taken from the family without warning. They didn’t know how to handle their grief.

Image: @AmyKiteAuthor/Facebook

“I was heartbroken,” said Kite. “For me, everything with a pet is connected to joy and love so there’s this void when that gets taken away. When you walk into the house and he’s no longer there, there’s an emptiness and it’s devastating.”

As sad as Kite was, she knew that her children were in even more pain. They had very little experience with death, so it hit them harder than Kite could’ve imagined. They were all either angry or sad about what had happened to their beloved dog.

For many dog lovers, sitting around being sad seems like the best way to get through the pain. But Kite knew that there was more she could do. Being a writer, she knew she could find a way to help others that were going through a similar situation. So, Gus’ story inspired her to write a children’s book on the topic of grief and loss.

Image: @AmyKiteAuthor/Facebook

Goodbye, Gus

Kite’s book titled Goodbye, Gus was recently published. It’s designed for kids ages 2 to 8, but she hopes it can help anyone who really needs it. Not only is it a tribute to Gus, but it’s also a tribute to rescue dogs as a whole. Kite hopes that the book will help kids learn how to deal with the loss of their own dogs.

“Death is an unavoidable part of life. Everyone will experience loss,” said Kite. “So, it’s ironic that we steer away from the topic. Death shouldn’t be a taboo topic. Being someone who was younger when my dad died, I still love when people bring up my dad.”

Image: @AmyKiteAuthor/Facebook

In terms of when it’s okay to get another dog, Kite says that it’s completely a personal choice. After Gus passed away, she adopted another dog the next day in his honor. She believes that just because Gus is gone, it doesn’t mean she can’t open her heart to other dogs in need.

“I felt like to honor Gus, I had to open my heart and so I went back to the rescue shelter and got Cosmo the next day. I was rescuing him but he was rescuing me, too,” said Kite.

Gus only had a short life, but he was lucky to spend it with people who love him. Kite says that’s what having a dog is really all about: living in the present. Enjoy the good moments with your pup so you will have something beautiful to look back on when they pass away. Don’t ever take the moments you spend with your dog for granted.

You can now purchase Kite’s adorable children’s book on Amazon!

Seattle Is Socialism’s Laboratory, and It’s Not Pretty

Seattle Is Socialism’s Laboratory, and It’s Not Pretty:

Seattle Is Socialism’s Laboratory, and It’s Not PrettyDemocratic socialists are in the middle of a hostile takeover of the Democratic Party. Led by the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign and the “squad” of newly elected congresswomen, the hard-left coalition has laid out an ambitious agenda to transform the United States into a democratic socialist nation. While many commentators have dismissed the rhetoric around the Green New Deal, Housing for All, and End Cash Bail as pie-in-the-sky abstraction, in Seattle, the socialist coalition is quickly translating this agenda into a political reality.After the socialist Left’s stunning victory over business-backed moderates in last year’s municipal elections, Seattle has effectively become the nation’s laboratory for socialist policies. Since the beginning of the year, the socialist faction on the Seattle City Council has proposed a range of policies on taxes, housing, homelessness, and criminal justice that put into practice the national democratic-socialist agenda. In the most recent session, socialist councilwoman Kshama Sawant and her allies have proposed massive new taxes on corporations, unprecedented regulations on landlords (including rent control and a ban on “winter evictions”), the mandated construction of homeless encampments, and the gradual dismantling of the criminal justice system, beginning with the end of cash bail.Seattle’s socialists have established a narrative that provides the rhetorical basis for their policies. They argue that the corporate-technological elite, led by companies such as Amazon, has hoarded the rewards of the digital economy and created widespread misery for workers, renters, and people of color. As Seattle-based commentator and Marxist theoretician Charles Mudede has written: “We are in the 21st century. We are in one of the richest cities on earth. And yet, the old war between those who employ labor and those who sell their labor is still very much with us.”In the socialist vision, the “new class war” is now entering a more direct phase of conflict. They have launched a political campaign to dramatically curtail the power of corporations, landlords, and traditional neighborhood interests, and to build a coalition of socialists, progressives, unions, and the dispossessed that is capable of achieving power. In short, the solution to the class war is to win the class war.While conservatives and moderates have typically dismissed the socialist movement as a “big-city problem,” the new socialist agenda is no longer confined to the municipal boundaries of places such as Seattle, San Francisco, and New York. Increasingly, the hard-left coalition has turned these cities into “laboratories for socialism,” with the goal of eventually commercializing their policies through the national Democratic Party. Already, Bernie Sanders, the current front-runner in the Democratic primary, has proposed a nationalized version of the Seattle agenda: Tax Amazon, enact national rent control, construct public housing, and end cash bail.But Seattle’s socialists have gone one step further. In order to consolidate their newfound power, the progressive-socialists have begun to manipulate the democratic process in their own favor: first, by providing all Seattle voters with $100 in taxpayer-funded “democracy vouchers,” which are easily collected by unions, activists, and socialist groups; and second, by implementing a ban on corporate spending in local elections by companies like Amazon. At the same time, black-bloc activists and Antifa militants intimidate any potential opposition by disrupting events, vandalizing homes, and even orchestrating death threats against political adversaries.What can opponents of socialism do? First, recognize that it must be fought on all fronts. While the socialists form a small minority of the national electorate, they have demonstrated the capability of seizing power in America’s major cities, which are home to much of the digital “means of production” in tech, media, advertising, entertainment, and research. The business sector in cities such as Seattle must recognize that the progressive-socialists are no longer interested in gaining reasonable concessions; they intend to overthrow capitalism itself.Over the past decade, the dominant corporate strategy has been to quietly advocate for neoliberal economic policies, while pandering to the cultural mandates of “diversity and inclusion.” That era is now over. As the experience in Seattle reveals, the socialist Left cannot be appeased on cultural issues — they are fighting a war against capital and they intend to win it.If the business sector wants to protect its own interests, it must rapidly adapt to this new reality. It’s no longer enough for local Chambers of Commerce to drop leaflets before local elections; they must build a permanent counterbalance to the progressive-socialists. They must begin by commissioning original policy research, funding local neighborhood groups, and building a political alliance of conservatives, moderates, and old-line liberals. In other words, they must reestablish a balance of power in America’s cities.If nothing is done, the laboratories of socialism in America’s cities will become a national problem. It’s time to shut them down.
