The governor of lllinois said Friday he’s erased the drug conviction of an Army veteran who was deported to Mexico in 2018, a step that the man’s supporters hope will help him return to the U.S. “I recognize this pardon is not a perfect solution, but it is the most just action to take to allow a U.S. veteran the opportunity to be treated fairly by the country he served,” Gov. J.B. Pritzker said. Miguel Perez Jr., 41, who was born in Mexico, doesn’t have U.S. citizenship but had a green card as a permanent U.S. resident.

Barack Obama thinks about his brand and his legacy a lot, and he dreads what Joe Biden might do to it. This month alone, Biden mistook New Hampshire for Vermont even though the sole reason he was in that part of the country was the first-in-the-nation primary, which is famously not held in Vermont. He said RFK was assassinated in the 1970s. He said he couldn’t remember the name of the British prime minister in the midst of bragging about his foreign-policy chops. And he speculated about what it might have been like if Obama had been assassinated. This last, ghastly gaffe might be too much for Obama to take. Obama believes his brand is cool, technocratic, tightly controlled, a bit wonkish and professorial, inspirational, buttoned-down, Ivy League, definitely forward-looking. Biden is warm, free-wheeling, intellectually ungifted, frank and unguarded to the point of outright sloppiness, so old he served in the Senate alongside segregationist Democrats, and so out of touch he actually touts his friendship with these guys. Obama thought back in 2008 Biden was so old that he would never again run for president, his team strongly discouraged Biden from entering the race in the fall of 2015, and Biden’s jaw-dropping string of verbal blunders indicates a strong possibility of incipient cognitive decline. As Barack Obama surveys the Democratic contenders for 2020, he must be thinking: 1) None of these people has half my political skills but 2) Elizabeth Warren is my kind of gal. Warren is also cool, wonky, and professorial, also a Harvard product. Though she is 70, she looks younger and hasn’t displayed any signs of cognitive decline. Like Obama, she would be labeled a “historic” president. If she reached the Oval Office, he wouldn’t have to cringe every time she opened her mouth. He wouldn’t have to worry that her back-slapping tendencies would allow her to get rolled by Mitch McConnell. He trusts her so much that he let her guide one of his signature achievements, setting up the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. One poll released in late August gave Warren a one-point lead over Biden. Two other polls released in the second half of August show her within three points of Biden. True, most others give him a double-digit lead, and some have her in third place, albeit narrowly, behind Bernie Sanders. Yet she’s close enough that Obama must be wondering if his endorsement could vault her into the lead position. What then? Like everyone else on earth, Obama notices that Biden looks like a much stronger candidate than Warren in a matchup against Trump. Warren might well be Hillary 2.0: She’s off-putting. She’s smug. She’s … a she. Polls show Democrats are extremely worried that the American people won’t accept a woman president. The more she uses words like “My Daddy” and ostentatiously drinks beer, the less relatable she is. It’s hard to imagine the American people are thinking, “Yes, this is the voice I want to listen to every day for the next four years.”So there would be risk involved in backing Warren. But from Obama’s perspective, there’s also risk involved in Biden’s becoming president and embarrassing him every day. Maybe even, in his dotage, Biden might let what’s left of the Obama legacy slip away. If Obama thinks like most Democrats, he probably believes that nonsensical hullabaloo about email servers, not Hillary Clinton’s deficiencies as a candidate or sexism, was what cost her the presidency.Obama proved to be a failure at almost everything except getting Obama elected to office, but he is not a man notable for a modest view of his own skills. He must be thinking his star power could restore black turnout to levels approaching where it was when he was on the ballot. He must be thinking that with a push from him, and a little help from his turnout wizards, Elizabeth Warren could avoid Hillary Clinton’s errors and enter the White House. If Obama were to endorse Warren, the 2020 Democratic primaries would be upended, and Obama would be praised for lighting a path to a genuinely progressive presidency. And if Biden won the nomination anyway, no biggie: Obama could simply campaign for him in the general election and settle for a less-than-ideal Democratic presidency. I’m guessing Obama comes out strong for Warren.

A large wooden sculpture that strongly resembles Donald Trump was erected this week in Slovenia, home country of Trump’s wife Melania, though its designer insists it is meant to represent a “statue of liberty”, not the U.S. president. Tom Schlegl’s 8-metre (26 foot) statue in the village of Sela, north of the capital Ljubljana, depicts a man with blond hair and an angry expression, wearing a blue suit, white shirt and red tie. “I designed the statue because people have forgotten what the Statue of Liberty stands for.

Max is a 6 year old male Springer cross Collie. Max has sadly come back into rescue as he is too nervous to be around young children, he was originally re homed as a pup and now children have been added to the mix poor Max is looking for his forever home without little people.
He is a great lad who needs an energetic home, he loves chasing a ball and will happily bring it back as many times as you will throw it for him. He would be best suited to a home with older teenagers or adults only who have an active life where Max will be included for most of the time.
He is quite strong on the lead so would benefit from a little further training. He has lived with a cat although he will chase if the cat is not very bold and dog savvy. Max travels well in the car, is clean in the house and can be left for short periods and is not destructive.
Max has been neutered, vaccinated and micro chipped and is currently being fostered in Hampton MIddlesex.
Nancy is an 18 month old female Rottweiler. Nancy is a stunning girl who is looking for a new home with breed experienced owners. She is fine with other dogs and has lived with others of varying breed. Due to her size we would only re home Nancy with older teenagers.
Nancy is fine to be left for short periods and is non destructive and clean in the house. She travels well in the car and loves her walks. Nancy is a great example of the breed and will make a great addition to a knowledgeable home. We will only consider homes that can demonstrate breed knowledge and experience.
Nancy would like her owners around for a good part of the day, she could be home with or without other dogs and purely due to size any children should be teenagers please. She has been neutered, vaccinated and micro chipped and is up to date with flea and worming treatment. Nancy is currently being fostered in Beckenham Kent.
Alexander and Orlov are 4-5 year old male Cross-Breeds. They are super friendly Crossbreed boys are looking for a home together or individually. Originally from Portugal. They were found at just a few days old in a bin. They were hand reared along with some abandoned kittens. The lady who reared them tells me she had 17 cats, and as young pups the boys played happily amongst them. The groundwork with cats has clearly been done, and with careful introductions and supervision, I’m sure they could live with dog savvy cats again, though they have not seen cats now for a long time.
They came to as a very bonded pair, they had spent some time kenneled prior to arrival so we’re quite wild indoors at first. They have calmed down a lot, and settle down nicely now – as long as everyone else does. But as young clowns they are prone to boisterous excited behaviour and if wound up. The boys are clean indoors and have not been destructive, but if left unsupervised with cushions and small movable items I suspect they could become part of some pretty exciting games. ( only what one would expect from a couple of youngsters left alone to party).
They walk pretty well on a lead. Their recalls are good, but as sighthound type dogs we are selective about where they run free. They adore other dogs and love to play. The boys are living with dogs of all sizes. It would be lovely if they could stay together, but we are well aware training two dogs at once is hard work, and they can be a handful, so will consider applications for individual homes. Ideally if separated there will already be at least one other resident dog. The boys are very friendly and will make lovely family dogs. However they may be a bit bouncy for toddlers unused to dogs.
Note: it goes without saying that ALL dogs should be supervised around children, and ALL children should be taught how to behave with and around dogs. Tail pulling, poking, sitiing on or climbing on dogs is NEVER acceptable behaviour.
Alexander And Orlov are living it up with Fionna and her pack at the Sanctuary, near Kidwelly, South Wales, whist they wait for their forever home.
We will require you to complete our pre-adoption questionnaire before we can proceed. All applicants will be vetted, & will need to be able to travel to the Sanctuary near Kidwelly, South Wales.
Xena is a 7 year old female Collie Cross who needs a very special home with people who have experience with collies or rescue dogs. I am incredibly intelligent (I’m part collie so this is a given!) and require a lot of mental stimulation. I like to go hunting for treats with my nose – I’m a quick learner and enjoy showing off my high IQ, and I love tennis balls, best toy in the world!
It’s important that I’m allowed to do things in my own time so I’m looking for an adult only home, with someone who has lots of time and patience to work with me building up my confidence and helping me to relax and bond through positive experiences. Ideally I would suit a rural home – a farm or smallholding – and I can possibly live with cats and male dogs.
Mitsi and Sasha are 6 and 4 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terriers. We are are very friendly with people and children and fine around other dogs. We love to cuddle up to you and adore attention and looking for someone who will cherish and adore us as our previous owner did.

North Korea accused the United Kingdom, France and Germany on Thursday of meddling in its “self-defensive measures for arms modernization,” saying the West will make “no greater mistake” than thinking Pyongyang will give up its right to have weapons that it says are needed to ensure peace. The North’s official Korean Central News Agency circulated a statement from Kim Son Gyong, an adviser at the Korea-Europe Association, in response to a joint statement Tuesday from the three important U.S. allies condemning Pyongyang’s “repeated provocative launches” of ballistic missiles.

(Bloomberg) – Hong Kong police said they banned a Saturday protest by the organizer of previous historic mass marches, citing public safety concerns, a move that could anger demonstrators ahead of a planned 13th straight weekend of pro-democracy rallies.Police said approving the Civil Human Rights Front’s march was too risky as some people might use it to “carry out large scale destruction and disrupt public order,” Kwok Pak-chung, the force’s regional commander for Hong Kong Island, said at a Thursday briefing. The South China Morning Post first reported the ban.“Based on our intelligence, we believe certain protesters will commit acts of violence during the gathering,” Kwok said. “There’s a high chance that certain violent protesters will hijack this event.” He added that officials “have made a decision that we didn’t like to make.”Bonnie Leung, CHRF’s vice-convener, told Bloomberg News earlier in the day that the group was planning to appeal. Some previous rallies have been approved at the last minute after negotiations with police. The ban could trigger further outcry as the rally was planned for the fifth anniversary of China’s introduction of an electoral reform package that would have restricted democratic freedoms and was later rejected by Hong Kong. It could also fuel turnout at a two-day general strike called to begin Monday if the government doesn’t concede to protesters’ major demands by Saturday, the SCMP said.Timeline: How Months of Protests Have Unfolded in Hong KongThe march had been planned to start at centrally located Chater Garden and continue on to China’s liaison office in the city, where Hong Kong’s police and Beijing have drawn their sharpest line after a previous demonstration saw protesters deface the national emblem. Hong Kong’s former leader Leung Chun-ying is promoting a website offering crowd-funded cash bounties to identify protesters who have perpetrated vandalism, including HK$1 million ($127,000) for the person who splashed black paint on the emblem. The CHRF has organized three record-breaking peaceful marches over weeks of protests, including the June 9 rally against legislation easing extraditions to China that sparked what’s morphed into a broader movement against Beijing’s tightening grip over the city. The group said each march brought more than 1 million people onto the streets, while police estimates are lower, in the hundreds of thousands. Its latest march would come after a weekend that began with the formation of a peaceful human chain across the city and culminated two days later with police firing a weapon and using water cannons for the first time. Police said 86 people were arrested over the weekend for alleged offenses including unlawful assembly, possession of weapons and assaulting officers.CHRF convener Jimmy Sham said separately Thursday that he had been attacked by two armed masked men inside a restaurant in the city’s Kowloon, but that he hadn’t been hurt because his friend shielded him. Sham said he would head to the police station in Tsim Sha Tsui to give a statement.(Updates throughout with police confirmation.)To contact the reporters on this story: Sheryl Tian Tong Lee in Hong Kong at slee1905@bloomberg.net;Fion Li in Hong Kong at fli59@bloomberg.netTo contact the editors responsible for this story: Brendan Scott at bscott66@bloomberg.net, Karen Leigh, Jon HerskovitzFor more articles like this, please visit us at bloomberg.com©2019 Bloomberg L.P.

Widget is a 7 year old male Lurcher. Widget is a stunning brindle Lurcher lad of about 5 years.
He is very affectionate and has lived with another dog but would not be okay with smaller furries. Widget travels well. Widget needs someone prepared to be patient building his trust. He would be better in a home without young children.
Bruno is a 2-3 year old male Rottweiler. Bruno is a young energetic intelligent boy. He came into rescue because his owner lost their home He is now walking well on lead, knows the basics, does get excited but you ask him to sit and he does, he loves attention and a fuss but he also loves learning new things, he is having a go at agility only basic bits as still growing. He does require a good level of exercise a day, he also needs more socialisation with other dogs, he is a bit over the top in his greetings which can cause other dogs to have a go at him but he is easy to control back to the sit.
We feel that because of his lack of socialisation he would at present be best suited as an only dog but for the new home to work with him and other dogs it would be a shame for this fun loving dog to miss out on having fun with other dogs because the owners do not put in the time with him.
Because of him being bouncy and wanting attention he should not be homed with young children he is very much a baby himself and does need attention on his needs.
